Finally, a Valentine's Day CVC word search puzzle game that my kids will enjoy. This activity is fun and engaging as students learn to decode CVC words and read sentences. Its a unique approach to word search and helping kids with reading fluency.

What is it? This is a word search activity which focuses on consonant vowel consonant (CVC) words. The theme is Valentine. In this case, the large heart consist of upper case letters. Ten fill in the blank sentences helps to access the CVC words. In addition, a word bank with check boxes give students the liberty to self check along the way. The grouped small hearts are markers used to find the words.

Who is it for? This is primarily for early readers who are just beginning to decode words. Students have acquired the essential skills of letter recognition in the sounds that each letter makes, then this activity is a perfect for blending the sounds together to form words.

How to play it? Students will identify the word bank and the check boxes. They will then drag the grouped hearts which comes diagonal, up and down, and across. The words can all be found in the pink large heart with upper case letters. CVC words can be located in three different directions going either way. There are ten CVC words for each word search. Bellow each word search are ten fill in the blank sentences which contains ten CVC words with corresponding pictures. Students will type in the missing words. Remind students to use the checkboxes next to the word bank so that they can keep track of the words they have found.

How to set it up?

No Prep – The wonderful thing about using Boom Cards is that you don’t have to worry about setting it up. You are good to go if you have Internet service on your technology device. No need to cut, paste, or laminate countless number of papers. No need to print; even though Boom provides that option.

Immediate Feedback – This is one of the best features of Boom Learning. Once answers are picked, Boom provides quick responses with red circles indicating incorrect answers and green circles for correct answers. Drop zones are indicated by blue boxes to make it easy for students to see where things should be placed.

Self-Grading - Tracking progress on Boom is self-explanatory. Records are stored into the system automatically to make grading a breeze. Everything from the time they started the activity to the incorrect answers; are all in display screen for teachers to view.

How to use it? These digital task cards can be used in the language and reading center. It promotes spelling, phonemic awareness, letter recognition, and picture association.

Why is it a great activity? It promotes reading and listening skills. The most important factor of phonemic awareness is the ability to listen to individual sounds and being able to connect them to other sounds of the letters and then eventually creating words. I crated the game this way because I wanted kids to benefit not just from finding words, but reading and typing skills are essential skills that will help in the long run.
