Anyone in search of farm animal jigsaw puzzles that involve counting from 1-10, well you’re in luck because I’ve got just the right activity that promotes counting, numbers, and animal recognition. This will be perfect to include in math centers. Students will place the puzzle pieces in the right spots, count the animals revealed in the puzzle, click on the name of the animal, and type out the number of farm animals.

What is it? Inspired by the theme of farm animals, this is a ten set jigsaw puzzle that is bound to assist in understanding the concept of one-to-one correspondence.

Who is it for? Pre-k, kindergarten, and first graders will be learning one-to-one correspondence. As they assemble puzzle pieces they will begin to see animals in the puzzles.

How to play it? Students will click and drag the puzzle pieces to its place, identify the name of the animal shown in the puzzle, type the number of animals at the corner of the dog bone, and then drag the correct number name to the center of the bone.

They are divided into three parts as stated in the above thumbnails.

Part 1 - All puzzle pieces are placed in barrels for which students will click and drag each piece to the correct place. This is a 3x3 puzzle set with a different farm animal in each. If students places the wrong piece incorrectly, there is a red circle indicted and the piece will be dropped back into the barrel until all pieces are placed in their right slots.

Part 2 - The puzzle is revealed on the left side. I am sure the kids will get a kick out of listening to the animals sounds when they click on it. On the right side are four wagons with the name of farm animals. By clicking on the names, you hear the name of each animal. Click on the wagon itself that has the name of the corresponding animal. If students click on the incorrect wagon, Boom will provide a 'oops' sound, but the correct one will provide a bell sound.

Part 3 - Now it is time for students to begin counting. Here there are four number names with a sound for each. At the bottom is a dog bone. On the corner of the bone is a text box where students can type out the number. Above, student will click and drag the correct number name to the middle of the bone as an indication of the number of animals shown.

How to set it up? No Prep – The wonderful thing about using Boom Cards is that you don’t have to worry about setting it up. You are good to go if you have Internet service on your technology device. No need to cut, paste, or laminate countless number of papers. No need to print; even though Boom provides that option.

Drop zones are indicated by blue boxes to make it easy for students to see where things should be placed.

Why is it a great activity? Kids will adore the ten farm animals displayed throughout the puzzles. As the puzzles are assembled, the counting of animals can begin and at the end, the quantity is revealed. It was quite fun and pleasing to create these Boom Cards.
