Let's dive into the sea and spell CVC words with the turtles. This fun and interactive activity is sure to help your kids with phonemic awareness as they identify images and spell out the words that match with them. Spelling these words is sure to improve their reading fluency and phonological awareness.

What is it? In this phonemic awareness activity students will identify the picture and spell out the correct word that matches with the picture on the right hand corner. If correct all letters on the turtle will be marked with green circles and will proceed to the next picture. If incorrect, a red circle is automatically marked and the incorrect letters will snap back in place.

Who is it for? This is primarily for early readers who are just beginning to decode words. Students that has acquired the essential skills of letter recognition in the sounds that each letter makes, then this activity is a perfect for blending the sounds together to form words.

How to play it? Students will identify the picture and search for the correct letters in the green turtle spots off to the bottom right hand corner. Students will click and drag the letters that makes up the picture they see to the middle section of the turtle. For example, if students see a cat, they will say the word cat and listen to each sound the word cat makes. Once they have determined the three letters that forms the word cat, they will drag the letters (c,a,t) to the middle portion of the turtle.

How to set it up?

Why is it a great activity? It promotes reading and listening skills. The most important factor of phonemic awareness is the ability to listen to individual sounds and being able to connect them to other sounds of the letters and then eventually creating words.
