Does your kiddos need help decoding words into syllables? Take a deep dive into this fun and engaging multisyllabic activity that will enhance your children's reading fluency.

What is it? This is a multisyllabic activity in which children are engaged in listening to words and determining how many syllables they can hear. These digital Interactive task cards pertain large ladybugs with black dots that has numbers from 1 to 4.

What are syllables?  Syllables are words that can be broken down into units. Each unit must consist of a vowel pronunciation; which are the essential components needed for decoding  multisyllabic words. These are words that consist of more than one syllables. In this activity there are also words that consist of one syllable. The best part about this activity is that children can listen to the words spoken with claps. The number of claps for each word will determine how many syllables must be indicated. Syllables allows you to decode words by breaking them down into parts. This is a segmentation process and the fundamental skill needed to read fluently.

Who is it for? PreK through first grade will be able to understand the concept of matching picture/word to numbers. For example, when they see the picture of an alligator, they will listen for the claps for each syllable in the word and then determine the number of syllables. Early readers can benefit from segmenting words through the use of listening skills.

How to play it? Students will be instructed to click on each picture/word and listen to the number of claps. Drag the picture to the correct number of syllables in the word shown on the ladybug.
