Are you scampering about for an alphabet matching game that teaches letter sound with highly attractive visual representation? Well, pause for some time cause I've created just the right game your students will love to play and appreciate.
What is it? The Ladybug Alphabet Matching Game is designed to teach letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and matching pictures to letters.
Who is it for? PreK through first grade will be able to understand the concept of matching picture/word to letter. For example, when they see the picture of an alligator, they will listen for the initial sound /a/ in the word and look for the letter (A) that matches it on the ladybug.
How to play it? Identify the letters presented on the ladybug. Recognize that each picture by calling them out. Listen for the initial sound of each picture and then drag each one to its matching letter.
How to set it up? No Prep – The wonderful thing about using Boom Cards is that you don’t have to worry about setting it up. You are good to go if you have Internet service on your technology device. No need to cut, paste, or laminate countless number of papers. No need to print; even though Boom provides that option.
Immediate Feedback – This is one of the best features of Boom Learning. Once answers are picked, Boom provides quick responses with red circles indicating incorrect answers and green circles for correct answers. Drop zones are indicated by blue boxes to make it easy for students to see where things should be placed.
Self-Grading - Tracking progress on Boom is self-explanatory. Records are stored into the system automatically to make grading a breeze. Everything from the time they started the activity to the incorrect answers; are all in display screen for teachers to view.
How to use it? This activity can be used in literacy centers to promote phonics and letter recognition. It can also build vocabulary as students match up pictures with initial letters. It can also be used as an assessment tool for phonological awareness activity. Boom provides the option to print out task cards; which is great because teachers can implement a bingo game out of it. Once printed, cut-out the ladybugs and the pictures separately and then distribute it to individual students. Teachers will randomly call out letters; while students look to see if they have the letter on their ladybug. If they do, the matching picture will be chosen and used to cover the letter on the ladybug.
To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have a Boom Learning account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with "Fast Pins," (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards).
